Happy MLK, Jr. Day!

Reflections:
We have learned many interesting things this week. During Social studies, we are learning about ancient Rome, and Roman contributions toward modern life.

Important Dates:
1-27-10 100th Day of school
2-03-10 $1.00 Dress Down Day
2-05-10 Bingo Night
2-08-10 Mid-quarter, progress reports go home
2-08-10 thru 2-12-10 Love of Reading Week
2-18-10 Skate Night
2-24-10 Grandparents’ Day
2-25-10 and 2-26-10 Rodeo Break, No School.

New Info:
Mid-quarter progress reports will be going home during the week of February 8, 2010. Only those students with a grade of 75% or less will receive one.

Love of Reading week begins February 8, 2010 and ends February 12, 2010. We will be engaging in many activities to express our love of reading. I would like to invite parents to celebrate with us by volunteering to come in and read a book to the class. Anyone who wishes to read to the class during Love of Reading week should let me know which date and time is convenient for them by Friday, January 22, 2010.

Reminders:
Students will be completing art projects throughout the quarter. Many of the projects will use paint. The paint states it is water based, but in my experience, it sometimes stains anyway. To protect student’s clothes, please send in an oversized shirt your student can wear during painting.

Talent Show sign up forms will be available in the office later this month. Participating students will sign up in January, audition in February, and perform in March.

Students should be reading a minimum of 1 hour a week. Each reading session should be recorded on the reading log, and submitted to me on Friday.

The 100th Day of school is January 27, 2010. This is an important funding day for the school. Please make sure that all students are at school, and on time on this day. We will have many fun things planned to make the day even more exciting!

I would like to meet with all parents during the month of January. Please call me, or send me a note letting me know when you would be available for a conference. I will contact you to confirm the meeting.

I encourage you to contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. You may call the school to set up an appointment, or email me at mpelchy@cox.net. View my blog at http:mrspelchy.blogspot.com/ for
